It seems we all need more of that

We need to bring humble back

It seems like a better way to act

Yeah, that’s what dad would say when I did things to be seen

When I tried to impress the cool kids when I turned 13

He’d say you don’t have to be like the others, always on display

Take a different approach and find your own way

And if you’re not sure how to act, try this instead

Be patient and kind, like Corinthians said. And he’d say..

Yeah, that’s what dad would say about posting all the time

He was never a fan of tying to outshine

He’d say easy on the “look at mes”, take a break from your screen

Trust me, you’ll feel better if you pick a different scene

He talked about quiet confidence and wanted me to know

The best way to win at life is without an ego. And he’d say..

There weren’t many there on that day when Dad died

Just a few of us sitting there by his side

He always kept to himself, loved our family, had a ball

And what I wouldn’t do for just one more call. I’d tell him

I tried to be a different person; I tried wearing type-a hats.

Thinking I’d like the attention and all of that

But just like you, I realized I don’t crave the limelight

I’d much rather be a humble hero at night

And when it’s my turn to pass on some advice

I’ll keep it simple and I’ll keep it concise, and I’ll say..
