A life consumed in vain
The slain remit to sleaze
While death exhumes the pain
You see, Pride is the enemy of peace
You got an enemy
Hanging off of your back
The old monkey
Is on the attack
Pride is the enemy
Peace is not surrendering
We rally, flying with our raised fist
The tally high but we will resist
I insist you come along with this tryst
And merge our souls with these wolves in the mist
Pride is the enemy
Peace is not surrendering
The battlefield blurred and I cannot see
I see you all standing with me
Do we stay to fight or begin to flee
Running laps around the unforgiving tree
And it takes my breath away
On its branches where I’ll cease
To my death I shall be hanged today
For this pride is the enemy of peace
You got an enemy
Hanging off of your back
The old monkey
Is on the attack
Pride is the enemy
Peace won’t be surrendering
They say we stand for our people
As I pray the truth is on full display
Just another creep along the sheeple
My pride is my sentence into this warped foray
Pride is the enemy
Peace chooses its own serenity
AHHHHHHHHHH!
AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
Ah. Huh. Yep…sure is.
A note from the lyricist
A psychedelic Americana cumbia-rock confrontation with pride, tribalism, and the cycles of conflict we create in the name of righteousness. “Enemy of Peace” asks whether the greatest enemy isn’t the person across the battlefield, but the pride we carry ourselves.
