They're Hanging Us Again

14 October 2026

We’re not really sure, where we went wrong,

Spent all these years, just tryin’ to get along,

But it just doesn’t seem to ever go our way,

If we start to gain even a little ground,

And there’s a sliver of overdue freedom found,

The white man will be sure to take it away.

But things have taken a familiar turn,

Because this country never seems to learn,

So once again they’re finding us,

hanging from trees,

It’s mostly in the south so no need to say more,

They say it out loud no need to close the door,

They just ain’t happy unless they got us down on our knees.

It’s an easy out for the hangman of today,

Whether by himself or with his K K K,

They’ll just take us into the woods where no one else will see,

Then the cops cry “suicide” and leave it at that,

Always ignoring one important fact,

The odds are pretty low that a black man,

would hang himself from a tree.

So things have taken a familiar turn,

Because this country never seems to learn,

So once again, they are hanging us from trees.

Yeah, It’s 20 got damn 26,

and they’re still hanging us from trees.

A note from the lyricist

First off, I'm a white gentleman. This was written as a black man who can't believe his people are, to this day, being hung from trees.
