Shell & Mikey

14 October 2026

I was filling my tank at the local eight pump,

When I caught a homeless couple out the corner of my eye,

They kinda looked in love and I wondered ‘bout their story,

If I asked, would they tell me,

or just tell me a lie?

They looked like they dressed, the best they were able,

And really didn’t seem to pose a threat.

So as I was walkin’, my way into the station,

I asked myself to take a little bet.

Maybe if I show some genuine respect,

And try to gauge just how they feel,

They might let me throw them, a couple a bucks,

So they can grab themselves a decent meal.

They told me they were Shell and Mikey,

But I didn’t get much more,

We talked for a second when I pulled out a five,

And Bam! Mikey was headed towards the door.

I was waiting on my hotdog, to get done rollin’,

Figured Mikey would be right behind.

Then I saw him searching those

gas station boner pills,

Thinkin’ this can’t be a real good sign.

Mikey had his choice of 20 different flavors,

I guess he promised Shell a very special date.

He finally chose one called the “Black Panther”,

And assuring the mood would be just right

Grabbed a bottle of delta-eight.

I couldn’t help but chuckle while they rang up my dog,

and a sixer of my favorite beer.

The cashier laughed and said, “Don’t feel too bad,

Mikey’s been doing that same thing,

every night now for a year.”

A note from the lyricist

I wrote this song after observing a homeless couple at a gas station. The story itself is fictional.
